About Me

Hello! Welcome to Say Hello to the Fig Tree. My name is Colleen and I had this idea to create this blog for a while. It wasn't until I realized my increasing interest and passion in molding faith with culture (particularly the Middle East) as well as language and deeper reflections and inspirations.

Fig Tree was inspired by the symbolism in regards to faith and the produce of fruit both literally and spiritually in the Bible ( Luke 13:6-9). These trees harvest the fruit before the leaves. There is no tree that can beat a fig tree for fruitfulness; it can bear fruit in spring, summer, autumn and even in winter. And figs are prized for their sweetness and flavor. The fig tree is very common in Palestine, Israel  and I thought it was  relevant for me to revolve these deeper messages and symbolism into my blog title as well as the focus of this blog.

Language and culture have been my main interests since undergrad. They have been my focus and inspiration throughout the storms of life and the fair weathered days. Whether learning Chinese and teaching non native students English throughout college, or attempting to soak up the Arabic language and culture during and after university, they have become interests that have continued to develop and evolve. And currently, still learning how to continuing to learn and progress with this rich Semitic language has been its own journey and adventure.

My Catholic faith is very important to me and it has been the main source of joy, peace, hope and inspiration in my life. My faith has developed and grown over the years.  My goal and hope is for this Fig Tree blog to be the source of inspiration for intertwining faith, culture, language and reflections. Happy reading!
